This was another aviation bucket list item in the books for me! Welcome to the KLM Crown Lounge in Amsterdam! As a frequent flyer, I’ve enjoyed countless airport lounges over the years including the United Lounge, the United Polaris Lounge, countless Priority Pass lounges and restaurants, and other Start Alliance Gold lounges when traveling internationally.

Thanks to my accumulation of Flying Blue points by signing up with the Capital One Venture X Card which had a 100,000-point sign-up bonus at the time – I was able to unwind in style with one of the best airport lounge experiences prior to my 10-hour flight. I recently flew business class back to the USA where I transferred these points to the Flying Blue program, which granted me free access to the KLM Crown Lounge. In this post, I will share the key features, benefits, and unique aspects that make the KLM Crown Lounge a must-visit for any aviation geek, luxury traveler, or those looking to maximize their credit cards!

Location and Access to this Exclusive Airport Lounge

Located in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, one of Europe’s busiest and most connections for a European airport, the KLM Crown Lounge is conveniently located in the Schengen area, near the KLM departure gate 52 for intercontinental departments.

How did I gain access as my first time flying KLM?

I spent 116,000 Flying Blue points plus taxes on my one-way ticket from AMS to SLC, Sky Team hub to hub. How did I earn these points? I opened the Capital One Venture X card when it had a 100,000 sign-up bonus plus my everyday spending on this card resulted in me accumulating the 116,000 points needed for the laydown business class seats on the Boeing Dreamliner 787. When it came time to book my flight, I transferred the exact amount from Capital One miles to my Flying Blue account. On the travel day, I recommend arriving at the AMS airport several hours before the departure time to fully enjoy the KLM Crown Lounge.

Cost to Enter

Access to the KLM Crown Lounge is primarily granted to business class passengers, SkyTeam Elite Plus members, and Flying Blue Platinum and Gold members. One of my favorite business class travel amenities is actually before you even get on the plane – it’s the lounge access that is included in your ticket price. However, there are additional options available for those who do not meet these criteria. Travelers can purchase access passes that typically average 50 euros a person, via Flying Blue points, or you consider acquiring lounge memberships through their airline loyalty programs, offering excellent value for frequent flyers.

Key Features and Amenities of the KLM Crown Lounge

1. The Iconic Delft Houses: You’ll take the escalator up to the lounge where you’ll be greeted with clear walls filled with the iconic Delft Houses! Did you know you can collect each time you fly business class with KLM? While the journey to collect all of them, you can see all of the houses, over 100 different Delft houses, one for each year KLM has been a company. The entire display in numerical order is on display in the KLM Crown Lounge on the main floor.
2. Blue, the Restaurant: Blue is their elegant restaurant and bar on the top floor. Come here for a great view of the runway and your included welcome drink of champagne. If you would like additional snacks, you can purchase them here. For the free food, you’ll want to head back downstairs to the buffet.
3. Open Buffet: Enjoy a pre-flight meal or snacks in the open buffet area on the main floor. Here you’ll find a mix of healthy, sweet, and savory options including a few Dutch delicacies such as gouda cheese, stroopwafels, and chocolate sprinkles for your toast.
4. Outdoor Patio with Panoramic Views of Schiphol Airport: If you want to get outside before your flight, head up to the Blue restaurant and bar on the top floor and then step outside on their outdoor patio. Here you can enjoy drinks and food while watching all the excitement happening on the runway. If you are like me and love aviation, you’ll enjoy sitting back with a beverage and watching the planes take off.
5. Open Space and Plenty of Seating: The multi-level business class lounge offers a variety of seating options and spaces throughout the lounge. You can take calls in more private areas or sit out in the open on their comfortable couches. There are options for everyone here
6. Luxurious Bathrooms and Showers: Unlike the crowded and busy public bathrooms available throughout the airport, you can find this lounge pass benefit to be quite nice! This is especially true when you have a long travel day and you can take a quick shower to feel refreshed and ready for your long travel day ahead.
7. Family-Friendly Amenities: For those traveling with young ones, you can find the ultimate comfort in an airport by enjoying the designated children’s area. Travel days can often be hectic for families and this airport lounge perk is a game-changer for families.
